The Empty Bowls Project made its return to campus on Thursday, April 16. With a $15 donation, students, staff and faculty were provided a meal and an opportunity to pick ceramic bowl made by Joliet Junior College student artists.
Attendees were able to enjoy their meal and choose from the wide variety of ceramic bowls up for grabs. Created to help fight food insecurities, this event was hosted by the JJC Foundation in partnership with the Office of Student Activities and Wellness, the Fine Arts Department and the Culinary Department. All proceeds earned from the event are used to fund food insecurities here on campus, such as keeping the campus’s food pantries stocked.
The Empty Bowls program has expanded to the City Center campus. On Tuesday, April 14, members of the community were able to stop by the City Center campus, Thrive Restaurant, for their meal and ceramic bowl of choice. This is only the second year, the Empty Bowls Project was held on two separate occasions, however, unlike last year, both events were completely sold out. In total, 200 tickets were sold for the main campus location and 100 tickets were sold for the City Center location.
One of the many prominent figures leading this project was the Director of Institutional Advancement and Alumni Relations, Jennifer Davis, who shared that 30 Joliet Central High School students were also in attendance at the City Center location.
“They loved the experience,” Davis said.
