Active Minds hosted this semester’s Fidget Fundraiser on April 8th and 9th. The event took place in the cafeteria on the 8th from 12-2 p.m. and moved to the D-Info Desk on the 9th from 12:30-2:30 p.m. The Active Minds booth featured various types of fidget tools that can be useful by helping students with everyday stress and academic pressure.
Active Minds is a student-led organization at Joliet Junior College dedicated to promoting mental health awareness, education and advocacy among college students. The overall mission of the club is to raise awareness surrounding mental health topics and spark important conversations surrounding students’ mental and emotional wellbeing. The group works to break down stigmas surrounding mental illness, provide recourses for students and foster a supportive campus community.
“The event was a simple and effective way to help with academic and life stress for college students while being affordable and practical,” said Active Minds club president Brook Ulreich.
Each fidget sold for $3, and all of the proceeds went back to the organization and club funding.
“The fidget rings were a unique and popular item of choice at the event and students were excited see the options and show off their own,” said Selena Caldera, the club’s vice president. “The turnout was great and there was a consistent crowd throughout the day of people there to stop by the booth, purchase items, and learn more about the club.”
